When I first heard about Alien: Isloation, I assumed it was just a 'look! brand!' scary game. But years later, I was told that the mechanisms of how the Alien worked was very nuanced, and it led to a personalized experience for the player against the Alien. I also think that I had heard that the threat of the Alien was constant throughout the game, and I found that thrilling.

I got the game sometime in 2021? and took a small dose of mushrooms to play the scary game. People advised me against it, but I wanted to be scared out my gourd. Instead, the mushrooms made it kind of difficult to focus - go figure. It was mainly a comedic experience for some reason. Anyway, I got distracted and put the game down until the next day. And during my subsequent and sober time with the game, I was initially quite scared. When I was introduced to the Alien, I was happy with how smart its ai was. But then came the sections about hiding/fighting humans and androids, and I realized the Alien, outside the first encounter that teaches you how instantly murdalicious the Alien is, never comingled with the other sections. It was pretty easy to note which sections were areas when you could just run and make noise freely and which were the Alien sections. This really got rid of the scariness for me. I don't remeber there being much change in the Alien's behavior either, and I doubt that I was too unpredicatable for the game to figure out a pattern. So i ended up dropping the game. The last thing I remeber was this section in like a freezer? and there were 3 rooms and the Alien came down, but it was fairly easy to get the objective and run away.
